RANGE: Europe except in north latitudes Asia to the Urals North Africa
HABITAT: Woodlands hedgerows and adjacent grassland margins
SIZE: 40mm
DIET: Caterpillar feeds on couch and other grasses
CONSERVATION STATUS: Often very abundant in preferred habitat
NOTES: Moving its range north apparently benefitting from global warming because grass is so easily available for caterpillar. Wing pattern makes it harder to see in dappled sunlight.
