RANGE: An area of dry savanna, 130 x 240km, in the Cape York Peninsula of far north Queensland.
HABITAT: Dry savanna woodland.
SIZE: Length 260mm, including 140mm tail.
DIET: Grass seeds of native grasses, gradually dissapearing as introduced pasture grasses replace native grasses.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Endangered.
NOTES: One of three species of Psephotus that nest in termite mounds in the north of Australia, one species is already extinct - the Paradise Parrot was last seen in 1922, and considered the most beautiful of all parrots. The latter fact alone was it's death warrant.
