RANGE: N. Paraguay. N. Argentina. Range much more restricted than formerly.
HABITAT: Savannah grass and scrub forest.
SIZE: 76 cms. (30 inches).
DIET: Small mammals, insects, birds and fruit.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Endangered. Possibly 2000 - 3000 in wild. Hunting loss of habitat to agriculture main reasons for decline.
NOTES: Fast runner. Monogamous. Wary but curious in captivity. Also known as the stilt-legged fox. The long legs give it a sight advantage in long grass. Introduced to Jersey Zoo in 2000.
