RANGE: The coastal rim of eastern Australia, from Adelaide in the south, to most of Cape York in the north. Also New Guinea to New Caledonia. Mostly in flocks, but also in pairs.
HABITAT: Lowlands with flowering trees.
SIZE: Length 320 mm, including 135 mm tail.
DIET: Mostly pollen, nectar and blossoms. Also berries, fruits, seeds, insects and their larvae.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Plentiful.
NOTES: Very sociable , boisterous, noisy and likeable birds. Probably increased in numbers due to feeding by the public, and planting of flowering trees in the suburbs. Those unfamiliar with parrots, would be surprised by how undetectable they are in leafy green trees. The ideal pet for someone who can devote 100% of their time.
