RANGE: Most of temperate Australia.
HABITAT: Forest and woodlands, but also deserts and mountains.
SIZE: 35 to 45cm long. Between 2 and 7 kg.
DIET: Termites and ants. Also grubs, larvae and worms.
CONSERVATION STATUS: Widespread, but protected.
NOTES: Occasionally feeds during the day in the cooler months. A marsupial monotreme that lays eggs.
